Add intrigue to your next party with this murder mystery game, set during the zombie apocalypse.
You and your guests are the unfortunate inmates and staff at Penderghast Asylum, a facility for the criminally insane that has been turned over to the tender care of Dr. Abraham Weiler, who is using the inmates as research subjects in his quest to find a cure for the zombie virus that is ravaging the world.
It appears that someone—or something—doesn’t approve of what’s going on at Penderghast. What should have been a night of routine research turns deadly, resulting in one of the unfortunate staff members to join the ranks of the living dead.
The murder was witnessed by a room full of zombies; piecing together the puzzle would be simple were it not for the fact that each of these witnesses is irredeemably insane. Now the remaining staff will need to separate what really happened from the delusions and hallucinations of the undead inmates!
There are 32 primary suspects in this mystery, however only 10 are required to play the game. The host or hostess will play the role of the narrator and run the game. Read the "How To Play" section for more information on how to play an expanded game with more than 32 guests.

Teens at the Byron Public Library had a spooktacular time at the zombie murder mystery! The annual mystery event is the teen department’s biggest program of the year. In fact, the Illinois Library Association featured the group pic on their social media accounts.
MysteryMom –
Headline Fantastically & Frightfully FUN!
Nickname MysteryMom
Menu Highlights A buffet of delicious soups, charcuterie boards with meats, cheeses, crackers, breads, veggie trays in the shape of a skeleton, Red-Blood Punch with Dry ice, and a variety of delicious desserts.
Theme Highlights The entire basement floor was covered with paper in a dungeon-tomb like design. There were floating candles from the ceiling, spooky "heads" (masks) lining the book shelves, skeletons sitting on couches and chairs, and various glass containers filled with scientific fluids and equipment.
The Zombie Mystery party was a total success? We had 25 people attend and served a buffet-type dinner of Zuppa Toscana, Taco Soup, and Pumpkin Soup with bread, rolls, charcuterie boards, veggie trays, and plenty of desserts. The decor was spooky and completely set the scene for a fun filled evening. The narrator of the party added in a few second-death murders and resurrections of zombies just to add to the excitement and include everyone. The main murder occurred after dinner and the sleuthing began. It was a fantastically fun evening right before Halloween.

Headline Impressed by my friend's commitment to their roles
Nickname Best Birthday Party Bash!
Menu Highlights We had meatballs that we used to "keep away the zombies" haha. Everything else was optional!
Theme Highlights We did not have a huge variety of decorations, but everyone came dressed up in their costumes, and we had some good zombie makeup!
We had so much fun! We got 13 people involved, and I was truly impressed at my actor friend’s ability to be in character, and for the murderer to keep the secret! I highly recommend inviting friends who know how to stay in character (I’m certainly not the best at it ha!) We had one of the zombies in act 2 take some creative control over the character as well. So fun!

We played the Zombie Canibal Asylum party for a work function (mental health professionals lol) and it was a huge hit! Not too much work to set up, and didn’t require any practicing for implemtation. Most people wore costumes which made it so great, and I used play medical supplies for props which people also enjoyed. We ended up only having 10 people attend, but I loved that you can have 30+ people as well! Would definitely recommend.

It went ok but the instructions around transition between Act 1 and 2 were confusing and seemed contradictory in parts. It meant the murder discovery went awry for us.

Zombie Cannibal Asylum – we played this as a virtual murder mystery. It does require some pre-planning on the part of the narrator/organizer. You will need to read through the manual and distribute the character info to each player. I scanned & emailed and labeled documents by the scene or DO NOT OPEN. Your pre-planning will pay off. The game went fairly smooth.
ACT I in virutal setting is primarily an introduction of your character so everyone knows your roll at Penderghast Asylum.
ACT II is primarily interrogations. Because there is no real script for interrogations, your characters must be animated and have a great imagination. A few times I had to remind them of the evidence to get them to continue interrogating based on evidence. Since this was virtual and there was not a scavenger hunt, I made pdf of internet pictures of the evidence and assigned the evidence to a character who shared what they found and where. We laughed all through the game.
I will say that 8 players are required and up to 32 can play, but zombies are not part of your required eight. It is better if you have at least 3-4 zombies. We only had one. She was great, but more would have helped make interrogations a bit more comical. Dressing in character also will make your party so much more fun. Everyone text me and thanked me for a great evening of laughing and murder mystery. It was a success.

We had an amazing time! We were celebrating 2 birthdays and Halloween so we had a rather large group (about 25 people) but everyone was engaged throughout. The zombies were the highlight of the show when they took on their character and gave their account of what went down.

Menu Highlights We didn't do anything special for the menu, just regular Halloween treats
Theme Highlights Regular Halloween stuff with a little bit more blood.
I’m from Brazil, and none of my friends knew what a Murder Mystery Game was. Some of them also don’t speak english, so I had to translate the whole game, but it was worth the trouble. We didn’t dress up as the characters because it was a regular Halloween party, but everyone got in character really well. The game isn’t difficult, but my folks had a hard time resolving it, probably because we were playing with 24 people. The characters are really fun, especially the zombies, and I loved the part that they’re interviewed. We are planning in buying more games like this, everyone loved It.

Headline Good story but some holes in the delivery
Nickname Juud
It was a lot of fun setting up for this murder mystery. This is the first time I’ve used this company and I liked the creativity of the story line. HOWEVER, I didn’t find that the narrative translated smoothly into the main event. I actually went over every characters instructions and added more details to it so that they would be able to obtain more information in act 2. For some of the characters, they were instructed to do nothing for act 1, and I thought that that wouldn’t be fun for them and hence i changed it up a bit.

Headline So much fun!

Menu Highlights Hot dogs cut to look like fingers
Theme Highlights I ordered iv bags from amazon and put red koolaid in for the zombies to drink blood out of
We did Zombie Cannibal Asylum as our first ever murder mystery party. It was so easy to put together and everyone had a blast! So so so much fun that our friends insist we make it a yearly party!
Laura Guerin Lovett –
Headline Zombie Delight!
Nickname Laura Guerin Lovett
Menu Highlights We had Zombie Pie (shepherds pie), zombie hand (cheese in the shape of a hand wrapped in prosciutto), zombie decorated cupcakes.
Theme Highlights Mad Scientist Lab: Blacklights, strobe lights, bubble machine, test tubes, skulls, chains, rats, animal skeletons, body parts, xrays, cob webs, specimen jars, kill switch, dry ice, animatronic zombies, tombstones, bloody tarps with creepy sayings, old medical drawings, bell jars, lava lamps, bloody footprints, turned clues into actual props.
We turned our house into a mad scientist lab for the Zombie Cannibal Asylum! We curtained off our living room from the rest of the house and this is where all the main events took place. Everyone really got into character and it was great! Instead of just doing a scavenger hunt for the clues, we created an escape room to find the clues. We had 14 people and separated the group into two. Each group had a turn to do the escape room and find the clues. It was fun because it was kinda a competition between the groups.
I accidentally, missed a middle portion of the nights story line. I wish I had prepared index cards in advance of what to do and when, because when the event started I didn’t have anything highlighted in the packet and missed a pretty big part. It ended up working out none the less and we all had a blast! Everyone kept saying how much fun they had! I hope to do another one! I think I learned a lot the first time around of how to run it more smoothly.

Headline Great game and Fabulous Price

Menu Highlights we had Halloween dessert contest too.
Theme Highlights Lots of décor, gauze, caution tape. Zombie cut outs
We had a shortened version of this party at our office. They LOVED it! It was close to Halloween, so tied into a theme well. My group really embraced this, they dressed up and acted. It was a great opportunity for people to really get into the story. Easy to follow directions, allowed us to adjust the length as needed. Everything you need is included. Great game, easy to use, and a great price!!!!
Shorooq –
Headline Excellent game and night by all means!!!
Nickname Shorooq
Menu Highlights I planned a fancy creepy dinner with: - Ribs - Pasta - Fried Chicken - Salads - Hotdog rolls - Vegetable fried rolls - Cheese Platter - loads of bloody drinks
Theme Highlights I worked on the theme and decorations for a month to make sure my guests enjoy what they are doing. I decorated 2 rooms, the asylum with the dinner table and the laboratory with all the clues hidden in it. To make it special, I added a lot of puzzles for my guests to find the clues and that took around half an hour to find.
Even though this was my very first experience at hosting a murder mystery night, and despite how slow I went while trying to remember what should I do next, it was an excellent game!
I played the role of the narrator and all my 13 guests came with perfectly made costumes and roles.
It was easy to follow instructions, I made little cutouts of everything to remind myself of the script. Though I wasted some time trying to handle everything on my own specially that I planned the game in 2 seperate rooms.
I made this extra special by gifting the winner of the best costume a dinner for 2. They worked very well on their costumes!
I only think that the roles of the optional characters should be involved more in the game specially when people run out of things to talk about or do.
Overall, the decoration, dinner and the murder were to remember and I can’t wait to purchase another game!

Menu Highlights Birthday cake was full of "strawberry blood" and a knife. Lots of finger foods and plenty of meat.
Theme Highlights The main area was set up like a lab including lab mice and brains in jar. Zombie stuck in the fireplace.
It was my husband’s 50 bday. He is a huge fan of the Walking Dead and how perfect was this murder mystery!
We had tons of fun, some of my guest came in Zombie Character and some came with lab coats made it even better. The best part was watching them re-cap the night and trying to figure out who the murderer was. LOL
This was absolutely the best party we have thrown!

Serina B –
Headline Short Staffed at the Zombie Asylum
Nickname Serina B
Menu Highlights Finger hotdogs and Blood oozing birthday cake as it was cut. Body part lollies (treats).
Theme Highlights Lab setting in shed test tube filled with colourful liquids and bloody table cloths from red dot (cheap) Old rusty tools etc. lying around on tables and cage/ bars for new zombies
Serina’s 16th birthday party was a blast, or rather a stabbing.
Everything went rather well, I was the host (Serina’s father) but I had never hosted a party like that before. The instructions were great and clear on what needed to be done and where. I could of made it run a bit smoother if I had not kept loosing my paperwork and just been a little more organised. Next advent will be a lot better. Everyone wanted to be a zombie so I needed to invite more people for staff members. Character selection would of been better if they were given and not chosen. All worked out in the end though. Totalling up votes for awards was the hardest and a program like an excel sheet written for this would be handy.
All in all everyone had a good time so well done to the writer.

Menu Highlights We went with finger foods and mingled in the dining area instead of a sit down meal. Everyone went along with the Zombie theme and presented the dishes with a gory twist. The chicken tenders had rubber rats mixed in eating away, cheese and crackers were placed in body of a skeleton. There was a brain shaped cheese ball. They even put plastic roaches in the meatballs which was a huge source of conversation.
Theme Highlights I went all out for the decorations. I created a mad scientist lab with potions and specimen jaws lit up various ways (glow sticks/led lights). I bought a cheap fish tank air pump and created bubbling potions and lots of fake blood
We hosted our murder as a Halloween party and it turned out awesome. Was my first murder party so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The manual was incredibly detailed and guided me through the whole process. I didn’t push the guests to be theater majors but did email them encouragement prior to the event. They blew me away with their costumes and how they "developed" their characters. Small things make a big difference. We had psychiatric patients as zombies and several of the guests did a great job acting out their compulsions and phsycotic issues. Everyone had a great time, claiming it was best Halloween party ever!

We were at girl scout camp the weekend before Halloween and wanted the girls to have a great experience so decided to try out a murder mystery. Next trip they want to try another one! we had 22 people play and it was great!

Menu Highlights We served curry with rice and naan, and we had plenty if "gory" sweets like cupcakes with "shattered glass" and edible fake blood, a brain made out of jello. We even had jello shot syringes.
Theme Highlights We transformed out living room into the "common and dining area" and the kitchen into Dr.Weilers laboratory. We even went as far as changing the lightbulb to red for the common area and green for the lab. I made booklets for each character that contained printouts and character sheets. And everyone dressed as their character, it was great!
It was a Halloween celebration, there was about 20 people in attendance. The dinner party went so smoothly, everyone stayed in character until the dinner party ended. It was so fun!

The library’s first murder mystery event was a success with over 20 teens coming in costume for the event! A pizza dinner was served between acts and they worked hard at figuring out all the clues by staying in character and talking to others. It proved to be the biggest teen event of the year at the library.
Kristin –
Headline Double Birthday Apocalypse!
Nickname Kristin
Menu Highlights I had zombie punch going with a dry ice bowl throughout the night. We did a potluck and basically said anything creepy or gross goes. We got.... Deviled eggs dyed to look bloodshot Sausage intestines Swedish meatball eyes Brains cupcakes Bloody cake Dirt pudding Pulled hamstring (pork) Batwings (chicken wins with black food coloring) Roasted root vegetables with beets so everything was red Several bodily fluids (different dips, salsa, guacamole) An amazing beef brisket.... I mean 24 year old, vegetarian fed, suburban raised female jogger, crawlspace aged with a lint of lime.
Theme Highlights I used oriental trading and amazon to order a bunch of reasonably priced decorations. My best friend's favorite holiday is Halloween so I was pretty much set between her and online stores. Several people used a local scrubs store to get costumes. We used the first floor of my friend's old home for the party. We kicked everyone outside for an intermission and quickly reset for the lab with some preplanned light changes, strobe lights, electricity balls, and mason jars filled with baby doll parts or just food colored water and some dry ice.
I’ve wanted to do a murder mystery for a long time. My parents did these parties back before they had kids so I’ve heard great stories, but had yet to do one myself. I love anything zombie related so I searched for an apocalypse themed murder mystery. I had it narrowed down to two different companies and actually another reviewer on this site sold me on this one. So thanks Greg!
It was my 32nd and a buddy’s 30th. After doing some initial probing to see who would be interested, one of my friends offered to be the host since I wanted to play a character. It worked out great and with the "how to print" section I was able to get things organized on my end without seeing anything crucial to the mystery.
The party itself went amazingly smooth! Everyone really got into it, going all out with costumes and character development.
The kit is straightforward and very easy to setup a great time with! I can’t wait to do my next party, and neither can anyone else!
Probably the best part of the night was when my host was describing the scene after the murder, the characters involved, without being asked or prompted, immediately began improving what she was describing, much to the amusement of everyone!
One thing I would recommend is there is a handout called "life after the zombie apocalypse" that you’re instructed to hand out shortly after the beginning of the party. Both my host and I thought the party would have gone smoother had we given that out ahead of time with their character sheet. It sets the scene and is very similar to your hosts opening speech. Everyone was revved up and in character as our host finished her speech and then broke for a bit as the handout was passed around. Especially as we had a bigger group of 26, it would have been smoother to just get right into it. Minute detail.

Headline Zombie Asylum fun!
Nickname Kayla
Menu Highlights I made finger food since we were eating in the "cafeteria" of the asylum. I had 30ml large syringes from another party (without needles obviously) and I made jello-shots in them for the zombies! Could easily be made alcohol-free, just make sure they don't set too hard otherwise depressing the syringe won't work.
Theme Highlights I made a zombie playlist on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/user/1289199128/playlist/2TsXPPAyNW655l4XwYxCMY I made lots of jars of different things - eyeballs and noodles floating in water with food dye, brains out of play dough in jars
My partner suggested having a murder mystery party 2 weeks before my birthday. It was tight to do all the organising but more than enough people came and it was super fun! The kit is very involved and there is a fair bit of organising to do before hand, but I really love that stuff.
My friends really got in to the characters with costumes and even accents.
